MeansCostWorks.com provides various tools at your disposal from anywhere within the application.
Some of the tools are as follows:
Expand /
Collapse ButtonsMeansCostWorks.com allows you to "expand" certain windows to give you a better view of the data. You can then "collapse" or minimize these windows whenever you wish.
The graphic "A" below displays the folder menu from the Home Tab. All folder types (Personal, Shared, Archived, Recycle) are currently minimized.

Clicking the "expand" button will maximize the folder type (Personal, Recycle) as displayed in graphic "B".

The "Expand" icon will open the window to full browser size.
Doing so will hide the Search Tree and any other windows on the page.

The "Show/Hide Tree" icon allows you to hide the Search Tree,
making all windows on the page wider, and show the Tree when hidden.
Note: The Expand and Show/Hide Tree icons only display on the Construction Estimate tab and the Cost Books tab.

The "Index" icon provides a link to an Index search window. On this pop-up window, you can enter a keyword and click the GO button to retrieve links to all of the sections of cost data that contain the keyword you entered. After clicking on a result, the data displayed on the main window will update to show you the desired section of data.

The "Abbr" icon provides a link to a list of abbreviations that are used on MeansCostWorks.com.

The "City Cost Indexes" icon provides a link to the publications that contain average construction cost indexes for U.S. and Canadian cities. A City Cost Index number is a percentage ratio of a specific city's cost to the national average of the same item at the same time period. Clicking on this icon provides you with information on how to use the City Cost Indexes.

The "Crews" icon provides a link to a PDF document that lists all of the Crews designated by RSMeans.

The "Labor Rates" icon provides a link to the Labor Rate Charts. The Labor Rate Charts show information on open shop labor, repair & remodelling labor rates, residential labor rates, and standard union labor rates. The "Installing Contractor Overhead & Profit" charts are located on the inside back cover of the RSMeans Cost Data Books.

Clicking on the "References" icon opens a popup window with links to the References. The reference links displayed within this popup window will correspond to the cost book you currently have open. If you access this icon from the Construction Estimate screen, it will open the popup window and will display the references for the currently opened cost book. If accessed from the My Home tab of the program, it will open whatever cost book has been chosen in your default preferences.

The "Dictionary" icon is a link to the Dictionary tool. The Dictionary defines all the construction terms used by MeansCostWorks.com and many more as well.
To access the Dictionary, click on the Dictionary icon found in the upper right corner of the application.

Enter your search information in the TERM box. Click Go. Your criteria result information displays.

The white question mark inside the blue circle is a link to the Quick Tour of the CostWorks tutorials and the Help System for CostWorks. This Help System is designed to answer all questions regarding the application and it's functionality. You can also view helpful tips on cost data, labor rates, and location factors.
